Le Blanc is the big white place on Street 352 designed by Samdech Hun Sen’s personal architects, and from the house red to the mirrored columns to the covered swimming pool to the $100-a-bottle Taittinger, attention to detail is everything a king – or a prime minister – might want. The hotel’s nine rooms are serviced by the house restaurant, Le Coco. The chef came from The Victoria and once served on a high-rolling Chinese cruise ship, but prices are not to-die-for. Starters, such as Asian fried chicken strips and seafood wonton with sweet and sour, begin at $4. Rack of lamb with herb crust and rosemary sauce caps the menu at a modest $15. The billiard table – with tight cushions, big American-style pockets and fat balls – is the best in town. Look for the white Love Bug out front; it’s the knowing, under-styled flourish that marks an otherwise glittering white palace. Le Coco at Le Blanc, #21A Street 352.
