Art questions politics

FRI 12 | Eng Rithchandaneth and Mok Sombo have spent the last two months in a joint residency at Sa Sa Art Projects at The White Building where they’ve been researching the political history and literature of Cambodia. Daneth explores symbols in hand gestures and communication, raising questions of power, social order and the politics of Cambodia’s aid dependency. Daneth asks, “For what or who do we work so hard every day and night? Power, ourselves, our families, our leader, or our country?” Sombo, meanwhile, considers politics and power with performances and videos that highlight the legitimacy of the voting system. He asks, “When power takes over, does it also tear down?” On Friday, the artists will open their work to the public at The White Building.
