SUN 29 | In conjunction with its US premiere on the same day, Romeet will screen Paper Garden for the very first time. The film follows the story of JP Neang, a young Khmerican artist born into a traditional family who lives with the daily struggle of rejection, yet uses her unique gifts to give hope and inspiration to children around the world, in particular, the urban community of Huaycán, Peru. The film will be presented in English with Khmer subtitles and won’t cost you a single buck.

WED 01 | The Piano Shop Concert Series 2 presents an eclectic group of talented musicians to celebrate the midweek mark. Jazz vocalist Kae Lhassan brings her quartet to the stage for a Manouche special. Featuring Sebastien Adnot on guitar, Toma Willen on percussion and Nono on violin, the performance marks a long-awaited return to the ‘Penh before Lhassan and her killer pipes jet off to France. Catch them while you can.

THU 19 | March 19 marks the date on which culinary connoisseurs around the world will be celebrating French cuisine with a unique dinner as part of French Week. Approximately 1000 chefs around the globe will create a set menu to introduce and indulge in delicacies deriving from or inspired by France. The gastronomic wizards at Topaz Restaurant are justifiably keen to show off their prowess as part of the worldwide event with their own one-off dinner event. Featuring an extensive choice of unpronounceable, scrumptious plates and French wines to match, Bacchus himself would be jealous. Reservation is therefore highly recommended.

FRI 20 | We’re no spiritual guidance experts (at least, not officially), but if you feel like your life is lacking soul, we can sort you out. Rhiannon Johnson is locally known as the “princess of soul” for good reason. With smooth crooning vocals and funky backing beats, she regularly packs out the house with upbeat jazz-infused, yet mellow grooves. Get into Doors for a Friday night fix.

THU 19 | Undivided Nature is a solo exhibition by Battambang-based artist Sin Rithy, which invites viewers to muse over life and death in ways many of us may not have previously considered. Leave your preconceptions at home and be prepared to embrace the often taboo subject of death as a never-ending story – certain and full – while life is considered a blank space; empty in its very nature. To drive home the theme, Rithy quite literally makes his exhibition come alive, incorporating living animals and a vibrant painting performance.

FRI 20 | Ever wondered what actually happens when an Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman walk into a bar? When it’s the three lads lined up to perform as part of Comedy Club on Friday, anything could happen. Englishman Graham Wooding got fed up with driving comedians to gigs around the UK, swapped places and soon began bagging awards for his talent. Aidan Killian is the only comedian to have done a “sitting room” tour of Ireland and inspired a spontaneous giant group hug at Ireland’s biggest festival, Electric Picnic. Scotsman Ray Bradshaw owns his very own dare page, where he has accepted fan challenges including taking Scotland’s oldest lady on a date and hugging an ostrich. Basically, it’s fair to expect an award-worthy show involving a giant group ostrich hug.

SAT 21 | All those who attended the ‘90s dance party at D-Club last month will be cheering like Britney Spears before she flipped out – the ‘90s are back and they’re bringing the ‘80s with them. The boys behind the ‘90s party (remember that guy dressed as a giant banana in pyjamas?) present a two-floor party, transforming Duplex into a slick ‘80s disco, while D-Club will return once more in all its ‘90s themed glory. You are welcome to dress up “like a virgin”, “shiny happy people” or something more creative altogether, and, of course, you can once again expect classics from both eras to pump non-stop all night long. And to make up for the fact that animal rights weren’t totally in vogue at the time, 15% of all drink sales will be given to Wildlife Alliance. Maybe that’ll offset all the faux fur get-up.

SAT 21 | With a line-up of German DJs, Made in Germany presents a two-night dance party celebrating electronic music from the country renowned for producing some of the world’s most talented, enduring EDM pioneers. Following Friday’s offering of techno and minimal at Meta House, Saturday night will see German DJs Antaro, Gandalf, Cosmix and Nicomatic hit the decks at Nomad, alongside special guests from the UK, Airfix Twin. Between them all, you’ll be dancing to a diverse range of styles, including acid-trance, techno-house, indie, experimental, and probably a whole bunch you didn’t even know existed.

MON 23 | For those of you who haven’t yet seen Golden Slumbers, it’s time to emerge from under that rock and check it out in possibly the coolest new pop-up cinema in town. Bistrot Bassac is no longer satisfied with simply serving tasty drinks and eats in one of the trendiest streets in town. Upping it another notch, they present a rooftop cinema screening of Davy Chou’s classic documentary this Monday. Golden Slumbers introduces Cambodian veteran filmmakers and actors from the pre-Khmer Rouge era who remember their roles in some of the Kingdom’s most recognised classic movies, as well as the struggles the industry faced during the time of the regime. It’s totally free and has the added bonus of director Davy Chou’s presence for a post-movie brain-picking.

THU 12 | Ever wondered what crazy adventures the Cambodian Space Project crew must have experienced during their past five years touring Cambodia and the globe? Check out their trip in full kaleidoscopic, psychedelic glory at Space Four Zero Pop Art Gallery with the launch of The Cambodian Space Project: A Five-Year Retrospective Photographic Exhibition. There will be tasty things to sip and snack on while cuts will be played from the CSP forthcoming album Electric Blue Boogaloo.
